They're Back! Often imitated but never duplicated, these are the
originators and the innovators. Although others have made an
attempt to stake their claim, Hidden Beach formulated this
feverish fad of hip-hop/jazz. While many were still
scrambling to give it a name and confine it to a genre, this crop
of hot musicians kept crankin' out hit after hit. By the time
skeptics
caught up, the Hidden Beach Unwrapped series had spread like an
infectious virus. Their latest effort holds true to form. It
still carries that uncanny blend of hip-hop club hits, seasoned with a
little flava of funk, creative composition and an overdose of talented
musicianship. Collipark retains some the seasoned vets like
Mike Phillips, Karen Briggs, Jeff Bradshaw, and Jeff Lorber, but are
also joined by ATL. newcomers Abdul Ra'oof, Kofi Burbridge,
and Jimmy Brown, who does a little "instrument flexin"
(playing sax, flute and trombone) on the opening cut, "Get Lo," a
funky groove that will make your subwoofers "man-up."
Another tune that demands recognition is "Ay Bay Bay" (Mike
Philly Version). Mike is flowin' on sax and the beat is laced with
a little Roger Troutman feel with Mike also on vocoder.
The bonus track, "Bridging the Great Divide" adds a
nice twist as the only original cut to ever grace the expansive list of
the Unwrapped series. Collipark Vol. 5.0 has earned its place in the
esteemed UnWrapped universe, where funk, creativity, hip-hop, jazz, and
talented artistry dwell in harmony. May the groove be with
you! |
